I was told you could run 12v in a stock T. Just need verification, please.
Thanks
Do you have a non starter car? If so, you can run the coils safely with a 12 volt battery without issue. If you have a starter car you can convert to 12 volts but there really isn’t any reason to do so as a well maintained 6 volt system works just fine.
My starter will not turn the engine fast enough to start it. Was mainly trying to troubleshoot starter via a 12 v boost.
You can do that but it’s hard on the starter and especially the bendix spring. Before doing anything else I would make sure all the electrical connections, including the ground, are clean and tight and sized properly. Battery cables for a 12 volt system won’t do the job effectively. Also, it doesn’t take much to start a well tuned T so the starter shouldn’t have to spin that fast. I start all my T’s with the crank and at 79 I certainly don’t have what it takes to crank faster than the starter.
