Been out driving my t a little bit. Hearing a noise that speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car. Kind of a wahwahwahwah sound. I’ve replaced the rear axle bearings and repacked the front bearings that looked in good condition. Don’t think it’s those. Could it be driveshaft bearings?u joint? Any input would be welcome, thanks
My Ruckstell rear axle makes a similar sound because my ring gear runout is on the high side of the allowable tolerance, I should have been more careful when setting it up during assembly. The backlash and gear pattern are OK, so I just put up with the noise. You might want to jack up the rear end and pull out on each axle to see if there is excess movement, may be an early sign of an axle thrust washer going out. Does your rear axle have the newer bronze washers, or the original babbit? The babbit ones can fail over time.
Tried jacking up and pulling on the wheels, doesn’t seem to have any play. Going to drain the rear end oil and look for any debris. Also check the level. Put new oil in and see if it makes a difference. Haven’t had the rear end apart yet so I don’t know if it has original babbit or brass thrust washers.
Help!!!last couple times I drove my T , I heard a clunking sound when stopping. Took it out today and the clunking sound was worse.a mile or two into the ride, it started clunking all the time with other horrible noises like gears grinding. Limped along for another mile or so and it stopped moving altogether. Had to tow it home and now, even in neutral, there’s a clunking sound when rolling. I fear the worst, any input or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Sounds like a rear axle rebuild is in your future, see my reply to your earlier post.
