Hello all. I have read here that vinegar seems to be a popular liquid to flush the block to try and remove some rust scale build-up. Im going to be installing a new rad on my 19 Touring and think that this would be a good thing to do using the old rad. Here’s the question. What about food grade citric acid and water mix. Ratio to be determined. It has a more neutral PH than vinegar. Mercedes recommends this for their cars, and have a procedure. My concern is would be having to redo the freeze plugs, which is not a big deal, just a PITA. Thought please!

Hello, I am just seeing this now. What process did you end up using for this?
I ended up just using water from the garden hose, and also a small piece of 1/4 inch air hose and going in through the inlet on the block with the hose adapter removed and blasting some air in at both ends of the block and rinsing until it ran clear. That being said, the engine is now out for a rebuild and the block will get dipped.
Sounds good Mark. Do you have a local rebuilder?
Yes, Star Engines in Campden, Ontario.
