Rebuilding my rear axle. This not the pinion gear that was in it, that one was pretty chewed up. This is a spare that came with the car. My question is, does it look ok to use?

It certainly shows some wear and pitting. I would be tempted to use it if I couldn’t find a better one, but I would certainly attempt to find a new or nearly new one first, they are out there. Check on the MTFCA classifieds or eBay.

Looks worn, important is how nice is the ring gear? This busted spot in that pinion is suspect to me.

Yeah, ring gear is not so good either. Going to have to break down and buy new ones. Didn’t see any on mftca or eBay. Chaffins has the best price at $440. Thanks for your opinion, greatly appreciated.
