Patina preservation suggestions

I have quite a few common Model A and Model T wrenches, pliers, and such that have sentimental value. I plan to display them in our unheated Pretty Good Garage. I’m looking for suggestions for preserving their patina.

Sending a thank you in advance,

Well, you could go through the trouble of rubbing them lightly with 0000 steel wool and then waxing them, but I’d just spray them lightly with WD-40 and wipe off the excess. That should work fine if you are simply hanging them. Reapply as necessary.

Thanks kindly. I think I’ll go with the steel wool, then the WD 40.

I use drain oil instead of WD-40. It seems to last longer.

Good idea that makes sense. I still have a handful of odd old wrenches to try the used oil strategy on. Lord knows I have plenty of used oil that looks like India ink.

Thanks kindly for the tip.
