Plating on Oil Cans

I have always assumed the oil cans for a Model T where copper plated both snout and body. There was a thread some time ago on another forum where it was stated the snouts on the can should be nickel plated. Do we know which is correct?

our 1912 Touring a Canadian car had the oil can on the fire wall when bought in 1960 ,it was well worn and was cooper bottom and spout. My guess is it was used on the car for a long time. Cheers Colin

I have four very early oil cans with the script in two places. They still have the original copper plating.
